Circuit around the Buntenbock ponds. On the way you can take a break at one of the restaurants on the route.
Mining storage ponds between mountain meadows and forests – these are the Buntenbock ponds near Clausthal.
The five ponds were built to supply water to the mines in the Rosenhof mining area. They are connected to each other by ditches and tunnels above and below the ground. The Rosenhof area was one of the most important mining areas in the Upper Harz and needed a lot of water for its water wheels.
The circular walk is 5 km long. It starts at the Sumpfteich pond in Buntenbock and goes to the Waldhotel Pixhaier Mühle. You can eat and drink something in the restaurant. You can also park there.
On your hike you will pass various information boards. They explain why the ponds were built 10 km away from the Rosenhof mining area. And how the water storage ponds worked.
On the entire walk there are fantastic views of the plateau around Buntenbock.
The signposted walk starts on the banks of the Sumpfteich pond in Buntenbock (Pixhaier Weg). Walk over the dam of the pond. At the end of the dam turn left and walk across the meadow. The path goes directly to the dam of the Ziegenberger Teich pond. Walk across the dam and back to enjoy the view of the pond. Then turn left onto the Ziegenbergweg. The path goes along the Ziegenberger Teich to the Bärenbrucher Teich.
Cross the dam of the Bärenbrucher Teich and continue straight on. This will take you to the edge of the Prahljust campsite. Go past the campsite to the Pixhaier Teich pond. Walk over the dam and then turn left. This will take you to the dam of the Schwarzenbacher Teich. Here you should also cross the dam. Immediately after the dam you should turn left again and walk down to the Pixhaier Mühle hotel and restaurant.
From the car park at the restaurant there is a path going directly back to Buntenbock village, where you started the walk.
On hot summer days you can take your swimming outfit with you on the walk. At the Ziegenberger Teich there is an official swimming area, where you can cool off after the walk.
