General information

Directions

Starting point is the St. Stephani church in Osterwieck. Through a small alley, we come to "Mittelstraße" and continue on "Neukirchenstraße". After crossing the "Ilse" river on the road "Vor dem Neuenkirchtor", turn left into a field path. We follow this one for a long time. We follow the country road to Berßel for a short distance to turn right into a field path, just before the start of the village. In the course of this field path, we pass Berßel, to meet the river "Ilse" again at the end of the village. Along the "Ilse" (parallel to the "Ilseradweg"), we come to "Wasserleben".

Going through "Wasserleben", we pass the old "Gutspark" and then come to the former monastery church. Continue through the village, along the "Ilse" to Veckenstedt. Continue along "Alter Stadtweg" towards "Charlottenlust". Here we have reached the highest point of our hike and have a nice view of Wernigerode and the Harz mountains, which are right in front of us. Down the hill we reach Wernigerode. In the centre, there is the town hall (worth seeing!) on the market square, where the hike ends.
