General information

Directions

We start at the St. Antoniuskirche at the market in Hasselfelde. At the traffic lights, we turn right into "Stieger Straße". At the Hassel river we turn left into "Kittelstraße", which at the end turns into a dirt road. The path leads us across the Hassel floodplain to the "Domain", a farmstead with a bus stop on the B242. At the farm we turn left again onto a wide gravel path and continue to the L 95 country road. We cross this to the right and then walk towards the village of Stiege.

In the village we walk past the Stieger Castle and the church and cross the main road and continue along "Lange Straße" in the direction of the train station, past the Stiege Stave Church. Behind the train station, we turn left and then, after a right-hand bend, we continue straight ahead. Continue straight ahead over a meadow through a small forest.

Continue straight ahead at the halt of the Harz narrow-gauge railway "Birkenmoor". Continuing south, we cross the Beere river (border between the federal states of Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia). At the "Birkenmoor" forester's lodge, bear left (straight ahead) and follow the "Alte Poststraße". We walk past the Neustadt dam on the left and then turn right in the direction of the Hohnstein castle ruins. From the castle ruins it goes down towards Neustadt. On the way down to the village we make a sharp left turn. In the center of the village we reach our destination, the St. George Church.
