best season

An approx. 13 km long circular hike along the Hassel forebay and the Rappbode forebay.

The two-barrier-hike offers you two dams, three stamps of the Harzer Wandernadel and far-reaching views over the Harz mountains. The first part of the hike takes you along the Hassel forebay. Numerous seating options offer you the opportunity to enjoy the views and listen to the voices of nature. After crossing the dam, your next destination is the Rappbode forebay. Very close to the dam there is the "Rappbodeblick" (view on the Rappbode) with a stamping station and a viewing bench. It continues along the Rappbode forebay, a section of the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg to the Trageburg. Here you can see the view of the Brocken massif and Wurmberg mountain as a constant companion. Once you have arrived at the Trageburg, it is a good idea to take a break and stamp the 3rd stamp of the Harzer Wandernadel in your booklet before returning to your starting point.

General information

Directions

From the hiking car park behind the Hagenmühle, we hike about 3 km on the right bank of the Hassel forebay to the dam wall. Two observation points with a bench invite you to linger. The stamp point 53 of the Harzer Wandernadel is located directly at the dam.

There is a seating area by the dam wall for a long break.

With renewed strength you walk over the dam wall. Keep right there and after about 400 m turn right again onto the forest path and walk down the mountain to the "Kuhfurt-Tälchen". Here you turn left. The forest road is about 1 km steadily uphill to the hiking junction "Altes Wasserwerk". Here you can hike to "Kleiner and Großer Rabenstein". (Markers: green and yellow bar)

Otherwise we turn left at the hiking junction and follow the forest road, which leads steadily downhill to the dam wall of the Rappbode forebay. 2 display boards provide information about the useful purposes of the dam system.

We hike over the dam wall and enjoy 2 beautiful views of the reservoir and the Rappbodetal valley.

You can reach the stamping station 56 via a dead-end road that leads slightly uphill to the right behind the dam wall to a rest area. From the Rappbodeblick stamping point, go back over the dam wall and follow the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg in the direction of the "Trageburg" monument, where the  stamp 52 is located in the weather protection hut. Continue on the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg in the direction of Hasselfelde to the starting point.
