Around the diabase quarry. 7 information boards explain all the highlights!
Wolfshagen im Harz offers ideal conditions for hiking: several kilometers of well-developed and signposted hiking trails invite you to discover the northern Harz forest, explore the surroundings, and enjoy nature.
The highlight among the circular hiking trails is the themed trail "Trail of Stones".
The path leads you around the renatured, former diabase quarry and explains to you with signs, descriptions, and photos the development of the quarry, which was closed in 1986. Today, the quarry is a large biotope for rare plants and animals. For example, the eagle owl and the midwife toad are visible and audible, and a variety of rare dragonfly species make the quarry a special place.
To show how small the contrasts between forest and quarry are and that a new nature has arisen, the Lower Saxony Forestry Office Seesen created this circular hiking path. At viewpoints and exposed locations, sculptures and reliefs made from local diabase blocks have been installed – one more reason for small and large hiking enthusiasts to get to know the "Trail of Stones" – and to enjoy the panoramic view of the former quarry at the created viewpoint.
The themed trail "Trail of Stones" has already been awarded as a "geopoint in the Harz-Brunswick Land-Eastphalia Geopark".
