Even today, the monastery and its 900 years of eventful history still characterize the town of Walkenried. Embark on a fascinating search for clues and explore the former monastery district and the immediate surroundings on the approximately 2 km long monastery insight walk. Discover the impressive Gothic monastery complex and other important historical buildings and sites from the post-monastic period along 13 stations on the themed trail. Visit the Cistercian Museum and learn more about the life and work of the Walkenried Cistercian monks.

Getting there
Aus dem Norden Deutschlands erreichen Sie den Klosterort Walkenried am besten über die Autobahn A7. Hier nehmen Sie die Ausfahrt Seesen/Harz und folgen dann der B 243 bis zur Ausfahrt nach Walkenried.
Vom Süden kommen Sie am einfachsten über die A38 in den Südharz. In der Nähe von Nordhausen verlassen Sie die Autobahn an der Anschlussstelle Großwechsungen und folgen anschließend ebenfalls der B 243 in Richtung Nordwesten bis zur Ausfahrt nach Walkenried.
Parking
Ein großer kostenfreier Parkplatz steht in unmittelbarer Nähe des Klosters zur Verfügung. Auf dem Parkplatz stehen zwei Ladesäulen zur Verfügung. Es können zwei Elektrofahrzeuge mit einer Leistung von jeweils 22 kW/Stunde gleichzeitig geladen werden. Der Ladevorgang wird über eine Zugangskarte von ladenetz.de gestartet. Alternativ kann auch bei unserem Besucherservice (gegen Pfand) eine Ladekarte der HarzEnergie ausgeliehen werden.
Public transit
Walkenried liegt an der Bahnstrecke Northeim – Herzberg – Nordhausen. Die Züge verkehren stündlich. Vom Bahnhof Walkenried zum Museum sind es ca. 10 Minuten Fußweg. Zwischen Göttingen und Walkenried besteht alle 2 Stunden eine Direktverbindung und alle zwei Stunden mit Umstieg in Northeim.
