Hike to the Carlshausturm with a panoramic view (HWN 51)

The starting point of the circular hike is the tourist information in Hasselfelde. The route takes you to the station of the Harzer Schmalspurbahn (locomotive exhibition) about 300 meters away and past the Blumenau monument. Dr. Hermann Blumenau was the founder of the city of Blumenau in Brazil. An exhibition on the history can be found in the museum of the same name in the tourist information office in Hasselfelde.

From there, keep to the right and turn right again behind the hardware store in the direction of Waldseebad and OT Rotacker.

You hike along meadows and shady paths (1.1 km) past the barbecue area with a historic charcoal burner's hut to the idyllically situated forest lake outdoor pool and the adjacent Hoyerteich. The Hoyerteich with its beautiful water lilies invites you to linger with its benches.

At the end of the Hoyerteich, cross the B81 into the Rotacker housing estate. Through the housing estate follow the yellow square. At the end of the road keep right and you will reach the forest car park Ferienpark Blauvogel.

From there, turn left onto the dirt road and continue to follow the yellow square. After approx. 1 km you cross a paved path over a small swamp biotope on both sides. From here, our hiking trail leads slightly uphill to the forest road.

Keep to the left there and in about 100 m you will come to the "Hahnefurt-Kreuzung" with a small bench for a break before continuing slightly uphill. You can already see the Carlshaus Tower halfway along the route. Follow the path to the viewpoint and tower. Your path takes you past an old hunting lodge. From here you can expect a steep, 340 m long ascent to the plateau of the Carlshaus Tower, the highest point of the hike, at 626 m above sea level. N.N. Friends of the Harzer Wandernadel will find stamping station no. 51 opposite the tower. A weather shelter and a few benches invite you to take a break.

The observation tower is accessible for free. If you are not afraid of heights, after climbing 150 metal steps and reaching the upper viewing platform (30 m high), it offers you a fantastic view over the entire eastern Harz region including the Brocken mountain panorama and the view of the Josephskreuz and Kyffhäuser.

The hike takes us back via the Radeweghaus. From the Carlshausturm, it's about 2 km back on the same route to the "Hahnefurt junction".

Here you follow the forest path on the right through an old mixed beech forest, past forest meadows and deer feeding areas to the "Radeweghaus" rest area on the B 81 (1.4 km). After crossing the B 81, follow the small trail for about 50 m along the main road to the left as far as the forest road, where you keep to the right. After another 850 m you will come to a forest path crossing in the forest village "Tänniche" (old beeches), where you follow the 'yellow and red dot' waymark to the left for 1.6 km to the weather protection hut at the ski trail gate. On the last 1.6 km to the tourist information office in Hasselfelde, another view of the Brocken mountain panorama through an unusual Brocken telescope awaits us on the left.

On some sections of the route, short-term impairments, detours and road closures can occur at any time due to forest changes and storm damage. Inform yourself shortly before your hike.

- via the B 81 from Nordhausen - from Wernigerode via the B244, in Elbingerode junction B27 towards Rübeland, then junction L96 towards Rappbodetalsperre, branch B81 to Hasselfelde

- from Güntersberge / Stiege via the B242

- from the direction of Braunlage / Tanne via the B242

Parking is available in front of the tourist information office Hasselfelde, Breite Str. 17.
