General information

Directions

From the starting point at the Museum of Luther's Parents' House, head towards Mansfeld Castle. A visit to the castle is absolutely recommended - the view over Mansfeld is fantastic. At the foot of the castle hill, Flutgrabenstraße leads out of Mansfeld and between fields and forests to Klostermansfeld. In Klostermansfeld and Benndorf, the path runs on footpaths through the villages. The highlights here are at the Klostermansfeld/Benndorf train station. From there, the popular narrow-gauge railway Wipperliese starts towards Wippra and the Mansfeld mining railway (a narrow-gauge railway that also runs with steam) to Hettstedt. The section from Benndorf to Helbra is quickly covered. Those who wish can refresh themselves in the Neptunbad, which lies directly on the path, or do some local history in the local and history museum. At the junction Hauptstraße/Eisleber Weg, a lightly trafficked road runs to the foot of some heaps and then leads into a forest and meadow path towards Eisleben. On this section, you can catch a great view of the heaps around Eisleben before entering the town at the foot of some old heaps. Passing the St. Anne's Church, which is also worth a visit, it goes on urban footpaths towards the marketplace. Before reaching it, the path goes past the St. Andrew's Church (the church where Luther gave his last sermon) and the death house to the marketplace with the town hall and the Luther monument.

Safety Guidelines

On the outskirts of Helbra, the path runs for about 1 km along an old road, which is occasionally still used by motorists.

Tip

Be sure to visit the innovative museums - Luther's Parents' House in Mansfeld and the birth and death houses in Eisleben. The museums are a highlight not only in terms of content but also architecturally.

Getting there

Mansfeld is accessible via the A38 motorway and then via Sangerhausen (B86) or Lutherstadt Eisleben (B180), as well as via the A14 via Hettstedt.

Public transit

Mansfeld is accessible by bus 420 from Eisleben train station. Eisleben has good train connections from Leipzig/Halle and Kassel/Sangerhausen. On weekends, Mansfeld can also be reached by the Wipperliese from Klostermansfeld and Wippra. Klostermansfeld is also connected to the railway network towards Halle and Magdeburg. Overall, arrival and departure by public transport should be planned in advance, as the routes are not very frequent and allow little spontaneity.
