Goldbachweg

Here is what there is to discover:

1. Schäferhof
   Old manor house from the Thuringian period (5th century). Later used as a shepherd's farm. Stones from the Altenburg were probably used for construction. Extensively restored after 1990.
2. Schützenplatz
   The rifle range house stands on the orchard meadow. The Langenstein Rifle Club was founded in 1817. Originally, shooting was done from the window of the rifle range house onto the concrete base.
3. Kirschwiese
   The large orchard was later partially planted with pines. The Siemens Stone is located on the northwest side.
4. Forbidden Path
   South of Langenstein ran the border between the Duchy of Braunschweig and the Kingdom of Prussia. As there was no customs house on this path, it was not permitted to be used by everyone.
5. Breakfast Linden Tree
   The individual trees in the landscape marked the shepherd's territories. They were gladly used as shade by farm workers when taking their snack.
6. Brockenstedter Mill
   The village of Brockenstedt was located here. After the village became deserted, only the mill remained. Mill rights were something special and were not given up quickly. The last owner left the mill in 1970, after which it was demolished.
7. Goldbach and Goldbach Meadows Natural Monument
   The Goldbach is home to rare fish and crayfish species. Kingfishers, grey wagtails, and water rails breed here. Remarkable are the very old and extensive black poplars in the lower part.
8. Echo Bridge
   The Echo Bridge is the most significant structure of the Halberstadt-Blankenburg railway. The line was opened as a private railway in 1873. The bridge is the passage for the Goldbach.
9. Donkey Path
   An ascent to the Altenburg. Since the castle had no well, water had to be carried up the hill by donkeys.
10. Oil Mill Pond
    It served as a water reservoir for the oil mill located on the opposite side of the road. The water wheel was later replaced by an electric drive. Milling operations ceased in 1965.
