A scenic and worthwhile circular hike to the viewpoints on the Rappbode Dam and on the Rotestein near Hasselfelde, the suspension bridge and the events of Harzdrenalin as well as the Harzköhlerei Stemberghaus.
The starting point is the car park directly at the Harzköhlerei Stemberghaus. From there it goes to the popular viewpoint Rotestein. From here you have a fantastic view of the Rappbode dam and the Brocken mountain panorama. A picnic seating area invites you to rest and linger. The route continues to the Rappbode dam, the highest dam in Germany (106 m) with a view of the imposing suspension bridge with the Gigaswing (pendulum), the Solitaire viewing tower and the largest double rope slide in Europe, the Megazipline, as well as the dams. If you dare, you can choose the way back over the suspension bridge - parallel to the dam wall - before you hike back to the Harzköhlerei via part of the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg.
The hike starts directly from the Harzköhlerei Stemberghaus in the direction of the Rotestein viewpoint. If you want, you can stamp the first stamp of the Harzer Wandernadel in your booklet at the charcoal store or save the stamp for the way back. The hike begins by crossing the B81. On the opposite side there is a steep descent of about 200 m. Once at the bottom, continue hiking to the right in the direction of Rotestein. After approx. 2.2 km you will come to a fork, which you follow to the left until you reach the observation point in approx. 800 m. An information board and a group of benches invite you to take a break with a beautiful view of the romantic dam bays and the Präzeptorklippe. Here is also the stamp office no. 54 of the Harzer Wandernadel.
After you have enjoyed the breathtaking view and your picnic, you continue to the suspension bridge and the Rappbode dam as well as all events of Harzdrenalin according to the signs. It is approx. 2.3 km to the Rappbode dam.
Be sure to visit the Harzdrenalin area. Walk over the mighty dam wall with fantastic views of the Rappbode Dam or on the right side of the RT Titan suspension bridge, which stretches parallel to the wall. Experience pure action and unique experiences in the middle of the unique nature of the Harz: Megazipline, Titan RT, Gigaswing, Wallrunning, Ultrashot, observation tower, 5D cinema and much more. Be sure to visit the "Typisch Harz" shop and find your regional holiday souvenir here. After a brief stay, it's back to the circular hiking trail. You can either hike back on the dam wall or venture back over the suspension bridge with a special stamp.
Back to the Harzköhlerei, it goes along the road on a beaten track towards the B81 (alternative car park Harzdrenalin). At the end of the car park, cross the B81 near the bus stop and from there walk on the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg to your starting point - the Harzköhlerei Stemberghaus.
TIP: Visit the first German charcoal burner museum on the site of the Harzköhlerei. Here you get insights into the history of the development of charcoal burning and learn about the difficult conditions under which the charcoal burners lived and worked, e.g. B. using foam dividers. In the charcoal burner shop you can buy charcoal burner specialties, souvenirs and charcoal.
