A small family and dog-friendly circular route through the lower Dammbachtal near Trautenstein.

The leisurely walking and hiking trail with no significant inclines takes you through the Dammbachtal near Trautenstein. Also ideal for dogs, away from streets and busy places. Here your four-legged friend has enough space to run around and romp around. Enjoy the beautifully blooming mountain meadows and the soothing tranquility in spring and summer. The hike takes about 1 hour. At the end of the Dammbachtal, an ice cream parlor and a local restaurant invite you to have a coffee or something to eat.

General information

Directions

The circular route begins and ends at the parking lot of the "Dammbachtal" café in Trautenstein. This is located at the entrance to the town from the direction of Benneckenstein or Tanne. Follow the field path to the right and walk to the forest car park. Keep left at the fork in the road and follow the path into the lower Dammbachtal. After approx. 800 m you will come to another fork in the road. There you turn left and cross the small bridge. At the end of the path, keep to the left and begin the return journey to Trautenstein. There you hike through the sunny Dammbachtal. Near the first house in Trautenstein, go left over a bridge and immediately keep left again. The hike ends after about 200 m at the “Dammbachtal” café.

On some sections of the route, short-term impairments, detours and road closures can occur at any time due to forest changes and storm damage. Inform yourself shortly before your hike.

Equipment

No special equipment is necessary.

Tip

At the level of the Schützenhaus, we recommend a small detour to the natural pond (not a bathing lake!). There, benches invite you to linger and enjoy.

You can reach Trautenstein by car

- from Wernigerode via the B244, Elbingerode junction (B27), Königshütte junction (L98), Tanne junction (B242)

- from the direction of Braunlage via the B242

- from Nordhausen via the B4/B81, junction Hasselfelde (B242)

There is a small free car park to the right of the "Dammbachtal" café.

You can reach the Harz town of Trautenstein by taking the bus of the Harzer Verkehrsbetriebe:
