An approx. 13 km long and entertaining circular hiking trail with many highlights and varied sections of the trail.

The circular hiking trail starts in the small Harz village of Neuwerk and leads via the HET path (blue triangle) to the Rappbode dam with the RT suspension bridge. At this tourist hub, hikers have many opportunities to explore the area. Whether on foot on classic paths or over the 452 m long, wobbly suspension bridge or even with a lot of adrenaline on the rope with the zipline into the valley or in free fall from the suspension bridge. One thing is clear; There is definitely something for EVERYONE. Don't forget to capture the breathtaking view of or from Germany's highest dam wall - the Rappbode dam. After this highlight, we continue to the Wendefurther dam, which joins the Rappbode dam. Another destination is waiting here for you - the Wendefurth boat rental (summer months). There is a choice of pedal boats or rowing boats. If you decide on a boat tour, it doesn't go as planned, relaxed across the water, no!  - you can watch the brave Megazipliners or Gigaswingers from the water. After your boat tour, you should definitely stop off at the fish restaurant or eat a fish sandwich at the stand. After refreshment, continue over the Wendefurth dam to the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg, but in the opposite direction. One of the most beautiful and varied sections of the long-distance hiking trail takes you back to Neuwerk.

The tour can also be hiked in sections and a return trip by bus is possible from the Rappbode dam in the direction of Rübeland / Neuwerk.

General information

Directions

The starting point is the parking spot in Neuwerk. From there, cross the bridge, walk past the bus stop and continue straight on the HET path (blue triangle). From here, a bit of fitness is required, because it first goes uphill over root and forest soil. Once at the top, you have a wonderful panoramic view of Neuwerk. An old enchanted fallen tree forms a small gate. After going through the tree gate, bear left at the end of the path. The varied path ends after approx. 1.1 km on a wider natural path. At the fork, follow the path to the left and walk about 500m until you get to the L96. Arriving at the country road, turn sharp left and walk around 900 m behind the crash barrier. Then you will reach the parking spots of Harzdrenalin at the Rappbode dam. Cross this and head in the direction of the Harzdrenalin visitor center and further in the direction of the Megaziplin, suspension bridge and children's playground. Once at the top, you have a breathtaking view over the Rappbode dam, as well as the Wendefurth dams. Furthermore, you can admire the courageous zipliners from ABOVE, which slide down the dam down into the valley every minute on a rope or would you like to get your own special action kick?

For the absolute adrenaline junkies among you, we have another tip – you can jump directly from the suspension bridge with the Gigaswing. Well, do you fancy it? Please book appointments in advance via

You are also welcome to continue your hike via the RT suspension bridge. It is definitely worthwhile and there is a special stamp of the Harzer Wandernadel on top. Those of you who are not afraid of heights can also hike your tour in the classic way on solid ground. Next to the playground, a zig-zag path leads directly down to the dam wall, which you can then easily cross on the footpath - always keeping an eye on the megazippers and suspension bridge walkers. At the end of the dam wall and suspension bridge, the zigzag path continues down into the valley in the direction of the Wendefurth dam. How about a small boat tour over the dam here?

Now that you're about halfway through the tour, it's time to stop off. A fish restaurant and a floating restaurant invite you to linger and dine. After your refreshment you continue over the Wendefurth dam wall, where a Harzdrenalin offer awaits you. With the Wallrunnig you can run down the dam wall. Please make an appointment online in advance! At the end of the dam you will come across the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg (HHSt), which you hike towards Neuwerk. After approx. 300 m you will come to the stamping point no. 62 of the Harzer Wandernadel with a fantastic view of the Wendefurth dam. It continues about 4 km on the HHSt on different sections - through enchanted forests, wide meadows, narrow paths until you reach the foothills of the dam directly at the water. Idyllic, over more paths, forests and along the river Bode you get back to Neuwerk to your starting point.

Tip

On this circular tour, you have the opportunity to collect two of the coveted stamps of the Harzer Wandernadel.

No. 46 - Talsperre Wendefurth

No. 9915 - Hängebrücke (special stamp)

In the Harz town of Neuwerk, we recommend the small detour to the Neuwerk water wheel, which is located behind the Bodertaler Basecamp. Unfortunately, you cannot get directly to the water wheel. However, it can be admired from the opposite side of the river Bode. To do this, pass the bridge directly at the parking lot and keep to the right. Always along the Bodetal Basecamp. After just a few meters you can see the yellow sign for the Dennert fir tree and a small bench. Here you cross the green strip and have a direct view of the Neuwerk water wheel.
