Walpurgis in Braunlage

Short facts

Walpurgis spectacle in Braunlage spa gardens Live music, Walpurgis theatre plays, fire show, fireworks

On 30 April, the spa gardens in Braunlage are once again transformed into a bubbling cauldron of witches. Dark figures can already be seen in the town during the dayWitches and devils wreak havoc on the streets and squares. Children and, of course, adults can really get their money's worth on this day, as "make-up teams" are available at various points in the town during the day. In the evening, the big Walpurgis procession sets off from the ZOB (central bus station at Buchholzplatz) through Braunlage, with all the gruesomely beautiful witches and devils, swinging brooms or tridents, approaching the spa gardens. The festival is officially opened at 7.00 pm and a Walpurgis play for children opens the programme on the riverside stage. Once again, the large show stage will be set up in the centre of the spa park pond, where live bands will heat things up for all visitors. It gets even hotter in the dark, because the spectacular fire show is not to be missed. The "Great Walpurgis Play", which is presented on the water and the lake stage after 11.00 pm, is unique and spectacular. With the speech of the chief devil "Hansi" to his numerous audience and a spectacular and sophisticated firework display, the haunting is brought to an end and souls are led into May in a conciliatory manner. Around the spa park pond, there will be plenty of refreshments such as delicious grilled food, crusty roasts, savoury hand bread, fish sandwiches or sweet treats such as crepes.

Admission to the witches' cauldron is granted at three ticket offices: Directly at the main entrance to the Kurgastzentrum, in the middle of the Dr.-Kurt-Schroeder-Promenade or from Elbingeröder Straße behind the tourist information office.Prices follow.
