The Samson mine in Sankt Andreasberg is one of the most important mining monuments in Europe.

The Samson mine in Sankt Andreasberg is one of the most important mining monuments in Europe. Silver ore in particular was mined here from 1521 to 1910. For a long time, Samson was one of the deepest mines in the world. It is home to the world's only still operational "Fahrkunst", which is now a recognised international machine monument. Also impressive are the two water wheels, the 9-metre-high sweeping wheel from 1820 and the 12-metre-high artificial wheel.
The current ensemble of buildings is the last completely preserved mine of the historic Upper Harz ore mining industry and has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Rammelsberg Mine, Goslar Old Town and Upper Harz Water Management since 2010.
Join us on an exciting journey through time above and below ground. We convey the interdisciplinary connections between mining, energy, technology and people - yesterday, today and tomorrow...
With award-winning didactics and authentic encounters with Harz originals.
